It is eleven thirty.
Time to go.
I strip out of my pyjamas and pull on the clothes I left on my dresser.
I grab my back pack and torch and coat. Then quietly I climb out of my window.
I grab my bicycle which I left leaning against the wall outside my window and I start riding down my street.
When I reach the park I stop by the huge willow tree. I part the leaves and lean my bike against the huge trunk.
"You made it! Ready?" I turn to face my friend Lero.
"Yeah! You?" I smile up at him.
"I am, we just need to wait for Chrys and Aime." I nod at him. He smiles at me.
Lero and I have been friends for a really long time.
He is tall, tanned skin, white perfect smile, blue eyes, dark brown hair - slightly curly.
We turn when we hear voices.
Chrys and Aime appear arm in arm.
Chrys is Lero and my friend. The three of us were best friends.
Chrys is one of those athletic guys, loves the track, football, swimming, has blonde hair blue eyes. Blonde bimbos love him.
But sadly for them he is in love with Aime, a girl he met on holiday when he was twelve.
And since then they have been inseparable.
Aime is a short girl, sun-kissed skin, sun blonde hair - she is a beach bum.
We all hug hello.
"Ready?" Lero asks, flashing his torch below his chin, looking very creepy.
We all laugh.
We follow Lero out from the tree.
It was his idea to do this, it sounded like fun during the day. But looking around now - it is quite scary.
Chrys and Aime are cuddling close together while I just walk beside Lero wondering where we are going.
"Okay, we have to be really quiet, and quick. Got it?" Lero turns and says. We all nod. "I have to turn the torch off... Stay close." He turns the torch off and grabs my hand, I grab Aime's who was already holding Chrys's.
We speed up past the security hut.
Once we are in the clear we all sprint on Lero's command.
We rush down the road, through an alley, behind a house and through the bit of forest I didn't know existed. He still held my hand, though I didn't hold Aime's.
Lero stops and well all look at him.
"Alright, you must all be curious. I'd be. It took me awhile to work this all out. But I got it done. Hope it works." He grins my favourite grin and I can't stop my smile.
"So from here we walk into the city. Scale the wall of Shaws and on the roof... If our treasure." He holds his arms out in triumph.
"Just scale a wall? To the roof!" Chrys shouts.
"Shhhh" Aime pats his chest.
"It has twenty floors" he whispers.
"Just follow my head man." Lero slaps Chrys on the shoulder, then leads the way through the trees and bramble until we can see the bright lights of the city.
When we reach Shaws. The front doors are guarded by security so we don't even show ourselves there. "How are we going to get up now?" Chrys sighs. The way he is holding Aime, it's as if he doesn't want to be there anymore, like he just wants to take Aime and get out of here.
"Just wait will ya!" Lero turns in circles.
Thinking.
"Okay, let's move" he starts walking around the building.
When we get to the back he looks around.
When voices start getting louder we run back around the corner just in time for the door to bang open and three men walk out.
Lero checks if the coast is clear then we all creep out again.
"Come on" he motions to the ladder in front of him.
"I'm sure sure about this Lero..." Aime whines, tugging Chrys close.
"Come on, we've come this far!" Lero throws his hands into the air.
"Come on, I've planned so much for this." Lero silently stomps his foot.
"Sorry man, we can't." Chrys starts backing away. Taking Aime with.
"Are you also going?" Lero turns to me. I was nervous, but looking at Lero's face and seeing the look in his eyes calmed me.
"I'm not going anywhere." I promise, much more meaning than he knew.
He smiles.
"We'll see you tomorrow then?" Lero says to the departing Chrys and Aime who both nod and wave then turn and run.
"After you..." Lero motions up.
Shakily I grab the sides of the ladder and pull myself up. "There, that's great, just keep going, don't look down, just keep going, I'll be right behind you." He promises. As we climb he speaks, comforting me as we climb.
I count as we climb higher, I start getting tired around the fourteenth floor and I slow down.
"Just keep going, and don't look down!" Lero urges.
I glance down.
"Holy Jesus!"
"And of course... You look down." I smile, Lero has that effect on me.
I continue.
When we reach the top and I pull myself over the wall, exhausted I sit on the floor. Catching my breath and rubbing at my sore legs and arms.
When Lero joins me I laugh.
"We made it!" I cheer and he laughs.
"Come on!" He stands, pulling me with him. "This is what we've all been waiting for!"
I look around, nothing special. Just the roof of a building.
But then we turn the corner and I see what Lero means.
The roof has been lit up with fairy lights, stremmed from one poll to another. Plants squared off a small section under the lights. Lero leads me between the plants and onto a blanket.
"Thank you for coming with me." He sits down. "I did this for you. For us." He motions around.
"It's beautiful!" I stare in awe. "How?" He keeps silent for awhile then a grin spreads across his face.
"I have my ways."
I roll my eyes. "You always have a way Lero." I sit down beside him.
"True." He lies down, pulling me with him. "I chose this building for two reasons. One, you'll find out later. And two, because of the view" he points up at the stars.
It is breath-taking!
Stars scattered the sky like diamonds.
"I love it up here, I used to come all the time as a boy. And I wanted to show you." He takes my hand in his. "You are beautiful, much like this view. And I have been so... So scared to say this, and I figured this would be the best way. I like you, I really really honestly like you. You're incredible, amazing and beautiful. And I don't know what will happen after this now because I know that it has probably ruined our friendship, but I just needed you to know that I couldn't let you not know about my feeling for you and I just--" I cut him off by holding a finger to his lips.
"Shhhh" I smile. "I really really like you too." He blinks a few times, taking my words in the leans forwards and kisses me.
My body exploded into fireworks.
When we pull apart I just lie in his arms, letting time go past.
When the sky starts to lighten we get up.
"We should get going" Lero says, smiling.
"What about this stuff?" I ask him.
"I'll clean it up another time, but right now, you need to get home before someone figures out you are not there." He grabs my hand and pulls me to one of the doors. He presses his lips to mine then opens the door and pulls me down the steps.
"Hey, what if we get caught?" I ask, following him to the elevator.
"About that... The first reason I chose this building... My uncle owns it." The elevator arrives and we step inside.
"Then what was all the sneaking around for?"
"Made it more fun!" He grins. "Don't you agree."
I nod, because it did.
"What about Chrys and Aime? They left because they thought we'd get caught?" I ask as the elevator moved down.
"Uh... No, they knew I wanted to ask you out, so they came along making it look like we were all just sneaking out. Then they backed out on purpose to get us alone." Lero says sheepishly. "I'm sorry if it is a disappointment. I mean, if you really want to sneak out and break into a building we can! I mean, I'll do it with you!"
"No, it's fine!" I laugh. "I like that you did this all for me... Makes me fee special." I blush.
"You are special!"
The elevator pings and the doors open on the ground floor and we walk out. We walk through the foyer. Lero waves to the man at the check-in. Then we walk out of the front door, past the security who nod at him.
Then we start out stroll back to my house. But we don't go through the forest or the alleys. Actually it is quite a quick walk and before I know it we're in front of my house.
"I'll bring your bike back later okay?" He whispers and I nod.
"Goodmorning!" He wraps his arms around me and kisses me.
"Goodmorning!" I whisper back then climb through my bedroom window. I shut it silently then climb back into bed. I fall asleep instantly, dreaming of Lero and the adventure we had last night...
